Want your own company App?

Apps are fast becoming the way to reach (and wow) potential clients. It's a great way to showcase your company portfolio and our customers want it. So we designed a service to help architectural and design firms to create stunning company Apps. In other words:

Iphoneipad5

So now that we've taken care of building the App, the key question is whether you should have a company App. Apps are "cool", but not all companies need them to generate business. Through working with our customers, we found it helpful to ask these 5 key questions:

1) How do you obtain repeat work? (brochures, networking, old fashioned mail-shots?)

 2) How do you obtain new work? (word-of-mouth, informal networking, staff connections?)

 3) What roles do you see smartphone/tablets playing in your marketing effort?

 4) What are your staff able to do with a company portfolio in their pockets? (Will they be able to generate more leads?)

5) How would you get the company App into the hands of your potential clients? (Put a download link on your signature? Email shot to potential clients? Sign in the office?)

Going through these questions would help you understand how(if) an App can help you generate business beyond the immediate cool factor.

To see an example of a company App, here's one we built for our friends at Make Architects: http://bit.ly/iC9qif

Do have a look and comment on the App store. I know the Make guys would be delighted with any feedback! Incidentally, they are using the App both internally - as a way to put a company portfolio in the pockets of their staff, and externally - as a way to extend their reach to potential clients.

We've called our service Woobius Showcase and I've included the logo below - showing you, because I think it's beautiful!

If you are interested in having an App, do get in touch with us (app@woobius.com or +44 20 8816 8087).

Below is a flyer for more information.

I and my friend were planning about a startup on the similar lines about a month back, but had to drop it due to a variety of reasons. I would drop two that might help you carry on..
1. Are people ready to launch a separate app on thier phones to care about the company and can a mobile site do better in terms of reach and usage?
2. Do we have the phones (or) do we have people who use phones to reach compannies? This was primary for us here in India as smartphones and iPhones/iPads are still a luxury and we will have to stick to java apps that don't integrate to the OS itself. And any extra app would be cumbersome compared to a mobile website.

Arunmozhi,

Thanks. You're right that a mobile site can serve a company better in some instances/countries.

In an ideal world, Apps and mobile website are not exclusive. In fact, I see them as serving two different functions. Websites being the "shop front", while Apps being the "interaction front".

Which is why in the article I suggest a good question to consider is how does smartphones and tablets fit into your marketing strategy. If your business can benefit from continuous interaction (call it passive networking) with users, then you will have a stronger case of having an App for your company.
